Director of Engineering Services (Dearborn, MI): Responsibilities include: Defining and overseeing all engineering activities and assuring the quality of engineering processes. Defining engineering activities for the corporation. Planning and prioritize engineering processes to ensure that multi-disciplinary resources are well aligned to maximize delivery of projects. Appraising and interpreting client requirements to ensure that technical, legislative and commercial aspects are delivered on each project. Creating and implementing best practice engineering vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures. Ensuring that engineering strategies and processes are in place to meet business objectives and operational needs in terms of price, quality and delivery targets. Evaluating engineering challenges faced by the business and acting to mitigate risks and develop opportunities. Taking ownership of the engineering policy, guidelines and any associated documents. Initiating and developing creative and innovative engineering processes. Overseeing all aspects of build design from contract award to handover. Leading the preparation of technical and contract documentation. Assisting projects with value engineering and financial control of contracts. Ensuring that Environmental, Health and Safety, engineering and quality standards and procedures are adhered to. Establishing quality and reliability standards by studying industry benchmarks, technical requirements and research/design and development, and defining the metrics required to assess performance. Provide leadership to engineering department and coaching, mentoring and developing reports and managing a high performing team that delivers continuous improvement, added value and cost reductions. Establishing department objectives and monitoring ongoing progress and performance. Establishing strategy and best practices for engineering staff to ensure achievement of overall business objectives. Overseeing a process for selection of external contractors. Preparing and controlling the annual engineering budget. Reporting on engineering activities on a regular basis to Senior Management. Qualified applicants will have a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and 1 year in the position and/or as a Material Handling Engineer & Industrial Material Coordinator. Academic program or experience must have included: in-process dunnage development; material handling equipment and developing material handling specifications; preparing storage and staging areas for receiving and shipping; and budget administration. 40 hours per week.
